FLIPBOOK HEALTH PROMOTION INCREASES ELDERLY PEOPLE'S KNOWLEDGE ABOUT DIABETES MELLITUS

Abstract

Background: Lack of knowledge and awareness among people with diabetes mellitus increases the risk of complications. Adequate knowledge encourages individuals to understand information, thereby raising awareness of the importance of maintaining a healthy diet and physical activity. Prevention and control of diabetes mellitus can be achieved through health promotion. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of health promotion using flipbooks on increasing knowledge about diabetes mellitus among older adults. Method: This study used a pre-experimental quantitative design with a one-group pre-post test. The population consisted of 108 elderly people with diabetes mellitus, with a sample of 85 people selected using simple random sampling. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using the Wilcoxon test. Result: This study used the Wilcoxon test with a value of α = 0.05, obtaining a p-value of 0.000, where 0.000 < 0.05, so H1 was accepted and H0 was rejected, meaning that there was an effect of health promotion using flipbooks on knowledge about diabetes mellitus in the Merakurak Community Health Center Working Area.  Conclusion: From the above description, it can be concluded that health promotion using flipbooks has an effect on knowledge about diabetes mellitus in the Merakurak Community Health Center Working Area. Based on the results of this study, it is hoped that elderly people with diabetes mellitus can improve their healthy lifestyle and gain broader knowledge about diabetes mellitus.
